LDing's media image

One of my favorite things to do when I go to bed at night is attempt to become lucid (gain consious during a dream) in my sleep. But much to my dissmay, the media image of Lucid dreaming is one of two things: 1. It's voodoo and should be illegal...or...2. It's new-age psycho mumbo jumbo. I have done it many times now and can honestly say, this is all a big load. It is no more new-agey than your imagination. I do not know where they get this, but I think it's stupid. So lets try to sleep at night without thinking about a hippie witch-doctor saying he "has controllable visions".

You should watch "Waking Life". The whole thing seems to be about a lucid dream. In that movie they mention that there are just a few things you CAN'T do in a lucid dream, and one is changing light levels. You can't turn a light on or off in a dream. Is that true?

Well, sme, yes and no. Some people do not have the imagination to see the room in a different light, so they can't change the lighting. It is hard for me to concentrate like that, but I can make the room look weird ;)!

Cool. I really should try this - might help me get to sleep faster!

I fly when lucid dreaming. You ever do that? I could fly both by taking a running jump and flapping my arms really fast.

ZS, really! Huh! Anyway i'm sure I left some people in the dust on this one, so this site contains more info, tutorials, etc. Enjoy!

I wish I could remember my dreams, let a lone have a lucid dream. I dunno about the new agey stuff, but I definitely think it shows you have some sort of consious control of your dreams, which is pretty cool.

No wonder the 3 of you (Z, SME & ZS) don't sleep nights. You're too busy messing around with your dreams!

Z - Thanks. I'll definitely check out that site.

Laura - A few tips. Try to go to sleep and wake up at consistent times. Don't drink alcohol before you go to sleep because alcohol affects R.E.M. sleep. And try to work off your stress before you go to bed. Hopefully that will help you remember your dreams.

TSHSMom might not like this account ;-)

I have had lucid dreams on a few occassions. The first time, it happened in my teens. I was in the office of a small motel. I became aware that I was dreaming, and could control it. I turned the office into a spectacular lobby of a top-notch hotel. Then I went into the dining room and fancied it up with chandeliers and fine china. Next, I conjured a baseball bat and lit into the whole thing, wrecking everything. I loved it that I could ccreate something like that and then have fun destroying it with no harm done and without getting in trouble.

That hotel lucid dream sounds fascinating...like being a rock star without all the extra work!
